Townsend, Montana | I know nothing about dog training. Never even wanted a dog. But I wound up with a border collie cocker spaniel cross. Long story. Apparently cocker spaniels are known biters. And that's actually what got me to take the dog in the first place.
As a puppy he drew blood from everyone. Just about went away. But he bit me and I put him on his back and dug my thumbnail into the roof of his mouth HARD. And he bit me back. So I did it again. And he bit me me again, but I could have sworn it wasn't as hard. So I eased up a little as I dug my nail into his mouth again.
And then he bit me again, noticeably more gently. So I gouged his mouth again but much softer.
This literally went on for a half a dozen times until he barely squeezed my thumb. After that, he started following me around for some reason. Only physical discipline I have ever given him.
8 years later he loves to wrestle and lightly "chew" on my arm as we go at it. But he has never bit anyone after our original go around.
