Most springs break due to lack of lube on the spring. Spring gets rust between coils and then only the portion of spring not rusted winds and unwinds when opening and closing the door. A quick spray of wd40 occasionally will really help springs last longer. This is especially a problem if you have a ventless gas heater in your garage or shop.
