Subject: RE: Logging Coverage Alternatives with Ag Leader

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.

I may try the clutch module idea since I have plenty of relays that are not being used. Couldn't I also use a seed tube monitor module if I put one seed tube sensor on the cover crop drill? I used a seed tube monitor module on my old ground drive planter that only sensed the seed flow and logged the coverage, so I am familiar on how the STMM mondule functions.

Using your Clutch Control Module with a pair of relays for Sections 1 & 2 should work. Again you would need two since the configuration requires at least two sections. Since you have relays available, you could use them. I have also "fooled" the system into believing clutches are connected by using a 12V LED (LED and dropping resistor). A suitable current limiting resistor should work also. The idea is that the system will "see" 12V on the potential ground lines for Sections 1 & 2 so that the configuration will not present an error message.

I hadn't thought about using a Seed Tube Monitoring Module (STTM). I have not explored the minimum number of seed tubes required. It sounds as if you have and apparently one is sufficient. Since you have experience with such an arrangement, this might be your best approach short of purchasing an actual Application Rate Module.

Just yesterday I was sorting through my box of various cables, adapters, harnesses etc. that I have acquired through the years. I ran across a shaft encoder of the metal proximity type and a so-called Ninja wheel that mounts on a 1" shaft. The Ninja wheel provides an area of metal followed by an equal "air" gap so that the sensor sees alternating areas of metal followed by an equal area of no metal. This type of sensor doesn't work very well if you attempt to sense off of a common sprocket since the metal vs non-metal areas are not distinct. This type of sensor might be attached to a seed shaft on your drill to provide a signal which by the use of a meter cal would work with your strip-til module. I had forgotten that I used this in another situation and don't anticipate needing it again.
