The Billion dollar advertisement is the total amount you would get, IF, if you do not take the lump sum. The Powerball association invest the money (lump sum) for you and distributes the investment to you up to the $1.1 billion dollars annually, over 30 yrs. That's the deceiving part of the lottery's - In my opinion, it should advertise only the payout lump sum amount. No some factices' amount based on the lump sum payout. And, if you take the lump sum - taxes have to be payed up front to the various governmental units. |
