Subject: Unexpected fee at vet clinic

Central Kansas
Been using a nearby vet clinic for 20+ years, most of the time with 3 bird dogs. Young, mostly female vets, come & go. The male owner is a grump but reasonably competent. I have used a number of regimens for heartworm & tick control….heartguard plus a topical was last before switching to Symparica Trio. Spendy med but use only one instead of 2 meds. Vet gives me bill. You scan or copy all 3 dog’s bills and send to Zoetis, the drug’s manufacturer. Generally need a follow up correction so time is involved. If successful, your rebate is sent as a credit on a card redeemable at the vet clinic. So…essentially you do all the work to obtain a rebate that gives the vet full pricing in a way.
Visiting with a kennel owner I know who suggested using Chewy for Symparica Trio….price is as good as rebate and you do no work to obtain it. He said Chewy contacts his vet who affirms the dogs in question were prescribed Symparica. No cost for this service from his clinic. So…I decide to do this. Chewy asked for vet clinics name which I supplied, got my meds at 6% less with free shipping. WHOA!! Today I received a bill from my vet for $12 for all the work they did confirming ONE of three dogs I take to them got Symparica. I am greatly annoyed by this charge as it was unexpected from talking to others and was not explained to me. 20 yrs with at least 3 dogs for annuals, shots, tests and meds and they value this $12 over my business!! I have not talked to them yet, nor paid the fee. I need to ascertain if this fee would be for each dog I wanted 3rd party Rx for…and if they charge me for a copy of the prescription that I can send in myself. Apparently some clinics charge for that. At this point, I am anngry enough to simply change vets albeit 2x as many miles away. Prior to switching, I will find out what the other clinic’s policy is in this.
Have any of you encountered this charge or one similar after paying for the visit? What would be your inclination as how to proceed? It might be commonplace but knowing this joker….his $ are more important than loyalty.
