nc ks | Nasty here. Sprayed almost all of the early corn right before it never rained again and many plants shut down from heat and dry. Got a 1.4 " rain 2 weeks or so ago on our southern late corn so sprayed it all. Just got an inch on our late northern corn last 24 hours so will give the go ahead to plane tomorrow to spray all of it. It isn't probably justified for yield, but it isn't fun picking 80 bu corn that isn't anchored to the ground, so harvestability is key. Probably should have sprayed our irrigated twice but couldn't quite pull the trigger. I missed a golden opportunity to have him spray a diagonal couple swaths on some irrigated when he was doing that first late dryland batch. That might have been an interesting yield map maybe.
We spray all of our late corn every year if it is going to be pickable. With the dry and now cool I was holding off on that northern corn that wouldn't have finished without a rain because it had no more soil moisture. Once in awhile we can get away with not spraying our earliest planted dryland corn if the rust is a little late. We have southern at sprayable levels every year at some point. | |
