| My post from the thread below… probably should have been in here.
The easy answer is to decry the farm aid and welfare. I get it. However, at this point in the crumbling empire, I have to wonder if we should really be arguing against it. The United States treasury appears to be a long-gone carcass being picked over by each group of special interests. The military grifters are funneling 1 trillion annually into pointless adventures oversees to launder back to the contractors. The nation's health is being raped by the medical/pharma/insurance oligarchy. 95% of congress is in publice service to add $50 million to their net worth through lobbying shenanigans. To me it appears to be everyone grabbing what they can to try to stay afloat and survive whatever comes next. I heard a local lumber yard own giving the hot take of how farmers receive bailouts and he wished it applied to him in the same way. While I agree with his sentiment, the idea that the 3 new houses for which the supply of materials was flowing through to his company was for 3 farmers was somewhat lost on him. Our small towns are dead, are organizations have no leadership/volunteers/members. The only people left holding these small towns up, are the farmers with some capacity to donate or volunteer like the old days. I have to wonder if we should really be arguing against whatever trickle of funds is coming back to the community through direct deposits from the FSA. As near as I can tell, the funds are immediately transferred out to float agribusiness, insurance, banks, churches, construction companies, etc. It's all pretty bleak whatever angle you take on it. | |
