We're near full employment now..
https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/unemployment-rate
We'd have to drive the labor participation rate up.. or repurpose investment bankers.. to work the assembly lines.
Where are we going to find the laborers to "reshore?"
Im not saying that we shouldn't try.. but not everyone wants to work in a factory. Especially if they have a better job.. A rising tide lifts all boats. We've helped ourselves by trading with others which create wealth.. driving growth globally... and generally peace.
Bad actors China and Russia.. notwithstanding.. which I acknowledge. Trump may be correct in asking our Allies to stand up to them.. but then he turns around and slaps insane tariffs.. so Which is it?
Nobody benefits more from growth over seas then farmers..
With NW Screw worm closing the border.. we currently have a decent book on shipping corn.. to Mexico.. to feed cattle.. which can't come into the US.
Reality.
China is working strategically with Brazil and others.. BRICS etc.
Instead of blaming Mexico.. why don't we work to increase trade.. they have a CHEAPER work force.. and we can each sell what we do well to offset BRICS
My RAM truck was built in Mexico.. it runs great.. and is Cheaper than the over priced crap Detroit churns out.. which I can't afford.
So the economy doesn't perform as well as it could.
We can't go it alone.
