Paxton, IL | I have quite a few different tire lubes I've used in various applications. Any one of them could do most jobs pretty well, but I've found they each have their own place I like them the best.
When it comes to rusty rims and and dry old tires, I haven't found anything better than Murphy's tire soap or something similar (the tub of snot looking stuff). I usually use a liquid dilution or other product to help get the bead broken, but then reach in and smear a bunch of Murphy's straight out of the tub in on the bead itself. It doesn't dry out as fast as liquid and tends to stay put reasonably well, which helps in the demounting process.
When I get the tire off, I just scrape most of it back off the tire and rim and put it back in the bucket. It doesn't last forever, but can be reused to some extent several times. | |
