southern MN | I recall in the 80’s the hog farmers saying they could buy corn cheaper than they can grow it, just buy the feed it’s silly to grow any!
Things like that kind of circle around I guess.
Right now locally hay crop has been huge and at best fair quality, mostly closer to poor quality. But there is so much of it that even really good hay is low priced. The market is so flooded. An appropriate word, flooded……
So of course, selling the baler and just buy that cheap hay makes sense. This year.
Then the cycle flips around again and hay is hard to find, and folks pay $5 a small square for the rebaled floor sweepings from the hay mow. And everyone is looking to buy a baler and make use of those odd corners of land again that were just being bush hogged.
