| Used to scalp every acre I could. All I had in the end was worn out equipment and worn out ground. Have a custom outfit do one cutting then stockpile for winter grazing. Buy about half of the hay on a year to year basis. I know some guys that are excellent farmers I buy millet hay from. Pay them a premium, they know they have a dependable customer every year.
In the end it's about building soil fertility, I'll buy someone else's (fertility) when hay is relatively cheap. Still have some older serviceable hay equipment that isn't wort much on today's market, just in case. But the guys I have doing it now are pretty dependable. They can do it in a fraction of the time it would take me. | |
