We buy 95% of our hay needs. It lets me run more cattle on my land. I haven’t quite quit haying a little of our own though. I haven’t sold the rake and baler but haven’t needed to trade balers for 12 years either.
ETA: I also like the fact that buying most of my hay puts me in the position of doing commerce with my neighbors instead of competing with them for rented hay meadows
