My first hfwa was a used 1970 4020 P.S with a canopy. I have had 3 3020's. Every 30 and 40 series bought new were hfwa. Traded the 4020 for a first year 4430 with cab, 4630 2-4440's and a 4640. Then 4- 4240's after a downsize and change from wheat to grass seed. 1 4440, the 4630 and 4640 were weighted down heavy with duals that were never removed, fluid in all 4, 6 sets of weights and heavy inside hubs. Pulled 21' and 24' heavy disk with sprocket rollers in wheat stubble. Ran 5 and 7 shank subsoilers, 6 and 7 bottom on-land plows and 21'and 24' heavy Dixon harrows. Loved the hfwa for seeding. In high, the front axle pulled the tractor around the corners with drill, flex harrow and sprocket roller. You could see the outside front wheel spinning, pulling. I never had to replace a seal, but did several hoses. I liked them so well that I never bought a 50 series because of the MFWA and 15 speed. I did lease a 4960 my last fall farming in 1992 to pull a 3 row silage corn chopper. Can't say as I really was impressed with it. I still have a 2520 diesel P.S with hfwa, pretty much a trailer queen, it sits next to my Farmall 544 hydro. hfwa ran so much smoother and turned a lot better than "regular front" but turned almost as short, actually just as short as they pulled themselves around the corner, not skidding through the turn at speed.
As a kid I liked 2 plow tractors, Oliver 66, case RC sunburst grill and Farmall H. I started farming with 3 bottoms, JD 3020 and Case 830's, 4020 pulled 4. 4430 pulled 5, in-furrow. 4440 pulled 6 on-land, 4630 pulled 6 on-land, 4640 pulled 7x18" on-land. Best, most enjoyable was 5-18" 1350-1450 with 4240's in-furrow, no duals, no liquid ballast, radial tires, 3 sets of weights, in 5th gear P.S....James
