I had the same issue with the same belt routing on a Cummins in a Massey combine. Replaced both crank and fan pulleys and put on a new Cummins belt every year and got along ok.
I agree with you.....not enough wrap on fan pulley for the load.
There was an update from Cummins that may have helped but did not solve the problem
Well, that's not encouraging at all. This is an excavator, and there is no room whatsoever to get at anything. It wouldn't be so terrible if you could access the crank pulley from underneath, but they built the frame under the front 18" of the engine. It's truly a disaster.
