Subject: RE: go cart torque converter>>Maybe

Pickens

Hello,

As Jason is spot on, idle can be the problem...too high>>but...

If you do indeed feel like the converter is almost "coupled" like a clutch manual setup>>

Upon removal, lay converter flat with hub protruding up,...take you middle index finger ONLY...run down where you can turn stator...it should be locked one way, and free wheel the other direction...DO not use any sort of tool...will be misleading.

IF> You can't turn either way...,Locked one way roller clutch...

IF> You can turn one way, and locks the other direction...NORMAL

IF> You can turn either direction with finger...one way roller clutch is shot...

NOW, locked limits high speed or top end speed..

If freewheels, you have no stall, and COULD act like its simply engaged like a manual clutch, causing excessive drag, which identifies your symptom.

Good Luck,

Hope this Helps,

CF
