This is AI, so take it with a grain of salt. 

But it generally agrees with what I've been told. 

"Missouri's state funding for higher education, adjusted for inflation, has remained stagnant or declined, with funding decreasing from $9,900 per full-time equivalent (FTE) student in 1980 to approximately $8,100 per FTE in 2023. This trend contributes to Missouri's poor national ranking in higher education support, with the state providing significantly less per FTE student compared to the national average. The shift in funding has led to a doubling of tuition costs for students, with tuition now comprising a much larger portion of university revenue than state appropriations"
