| Had a series 1 that had deck plates locked closed because it would get an ear of corn stuck at the back holding deck plates open. It was a good header, seemed like it needed little maintenance. Now a couple years ago bought a new GT model. It's a nice header. The directions want to have you blow all the chaff out from under deck plates nearly daily. I found that's only necessary if harvesting high moisture corn, the wet leaves get under the deck plates. In dry corn we don't blow them out all that often. There's quite a few grease zerks on it, but I prefer that to changing bearings. The GT does not butt shell dry corn nearly as bad as the series 1. I guess I'm a believer in the spring loaded deck plate gimmick. | |
