S Illinois | It sounds like you have old crop corn you are deciding what to do with? And you are thinking of buying back old crop on paper?
What’s your basis structure look like and where are you at on new crop production vs storage?
Preference would be to sell old crop as fast as possible and be done with it. Basis is ticking time bomb if your locals haven’t went to harvest basis already. If storage space is at a premium, better to have newly harvested than year old sitting in the bin.
As to buying back, that’s up to you. Not a terrible time to go long Dec but if you don’t have much sold for new crop, that would be enough long market risk for me. | |
