How about everyone not fall for this high priced fertilizer and not buy it???
So what do you do instead? I no longer have cattle. I took literally soil out of +20 year CRP I intended even more N side dressed, then by irrigation. But we are thankful for rain. But this fall I intended even more NH3 ÎF I go corn again. Still a gopher issue in places, still some thin brush pieces. Another year to get that stuff out.
If you know of a cheaper option. Putting $100 acre seed after tillage, multiple pass spray, harvest costs just to leave +30? bu yield because no fertilizer.
Ok one year, decent field, rotation… let’s say it gains you 10 by an acre. Even today at $3.50 a bu. That’s $35 gain. Same seed cost, spray, tillage, combine. Just hair more loads to haul, dry. *few farmers are upset at extra loads* but 2nd year no added fertilizer. I have heard +30% loss of yield. Even if you get 100 bu acre average. That’s big. 3rd year. Will not look good.
Now I have seen organic farms do this. 3-5 years it looks bad. But then it does come back. Not near as good as it was. But if they inject cow manure. They can maintain my WAG of 70%. Yes 2 pass cultivation, some have a weed burner unit. *I really need to see it*. With added price…
But tell me how to maintain yields without buying fertilizer.
When they pump house septic. Where he dumps. Next spring it looks better. I guess try to get as much from area septic tanks spread. *seems slightly gross*. But picking it up, hauling would be worse. But I would consider it.
I have offered neighbor dairy operations my fields after harvest. But they want $$$$ so they wait till they can spread on their own land. Darn. |
