central nebraska | Recently took a drive to get a new (to me) vehicle. Drove through Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.
The whole time, I was thinking “crap”. As a whole, nicest looking crop of corn and beans I’ve ever witnessed. I’m not an “ol timer”, but have been doing this for over 20yrs now. Sure, there will be pockets of disappointment, but there are more than enough bin busting areas to make up for it. The piles will be all the talk in October/November, and then we have to eat through all of it.
I got home and priced more… now about 65% sold for 25’. I hope the bottom is in, but 3.00 is a real possibility this year, and I don’t want to wait for August 26’ with full bins looking at similar projections. If you stick with the 7-8yr high/high marketing schedule, we aren’t coming out of this hole until 28 or 29. By that time, there won’t be any rent only farmers like myself. I’m glad I have employment off the farm. | |
