| It has been 30 years but a similar situation happened here. Bee keeper want to open a big part of the wall. The owner said forget it. Used 2 or 3 cans of bug killer sprayed in the hole, and a patch that kept most everything out. This was a storage area of a large meeting hall. I don't remember an ants or other problem.
About 7 or 8 years ago I made a deal to drag a none running 1950's Cat D6 home. It had hive in the steering clutch compartment. I open the 2 hatches you work thru to adjust brakes and steering, at day lite one morning. Still got a sting or 2. Was hoping to get the bees to move. The bees where entering from the drain hole in the bottom of the case.
That did not bother them, so got a guy with bee suit to come pull comb out and set it in a bee box. That got them pissed. After 2 weeks bees were gone. Everything was loose to steer. Hooked another D6 on and towed it 2 miles home. Pulled the fuel tank to get complete asceses to the back end. By giving the bees time they had removed 99.9% of the wax and honey to were ever they made there new home. I have remove very few parts from said D6, but put the cover back on to water and critters from making it home again. But the bottom is still open to let condensation have a place get out again.
I have been told once bees have lived in a space, other bees will smell it and move back in. Has not happen yet. In the ranch yard are 2 very old white oak trees. One was pruned hard 100 years ago. It has suffered the last 20 years and will be dead in less than another 20. But with all the dead wood and woodpecker holes. Have at least 6 different colonies of bees in the 2 trees. But with the dry years in the last few only one I think.
Not knowing how your home is built may not be worth the trouble, but work at chasing them away. Which is done by opening up the hive area enough they cannot defend it from wasps to raccoons. Then they will remove the wax as well as honey. Or keep trying other bee keepers. My guess is no matter how you get them out you get to pay for the reapers to your house. | |
