NW Iowa | That's how my 525B is, no ear just a bolt.
I'm pretty sure you have a leak in the box.
My 7475 goes 6 months without coming on,
They shouldn't run unless you are moving the setting.
I always leave mine in low.
Edit- You need to order a longer bolt
