The corn was planted timely
But just as it was emerging we had a very anomalous 10 day cold/wet/windy weather pattern that really seemed to do quite a number on the corn. Almost seemed as if it was like a hail storm in how it set back/stopped the corn from growing.

Was almost as if we “lost” 2-3 weeks during that stretch. Been trying to play catch-up ever since. And most years here it is quite the race as white shadow mentioned. Cool nights in late august and September seem to really slow down the maturity.

We have shortened up our maturities over the last 10-15 years but with the heavy residue from some pretty good crop years it seems as if we need to keep going. Mostly 89-93 day here. Planted April 27-may3. I’d say majority is late milk eary dough
