EC SoDak
Listening to some of the Agritalk podcast comments on my way to and from Dakotafest in Mitchell, SD, I’d guess he is very nervous about disease he is seeing in some prime areas.

With that said, from my place SE of Brookings all the way to Mitchell on I-29/90, almost all of it looked damn good. We shall see what the northeastern 1/3 of SoDak does to bring things down, but not often that drive all looks so dang good. I’ve heard the two top producing counties in SD are rough on here, X, and calls. However, it’s important for people that don’t know that area well is they tend to be lower on yield spectrum but each county is probably 2-2.5 the size of Brookings County, so take that information with a grain of salt if you will. Beans are tough, I don’t do pod counts because they hardly matter. I’m expecting pretty good beans if finish goes well. Maybe 65-75 on the average ground, 85+ on the really good ground I’m testing on. Grabbed 1.5-2.5” of rain this weekend and 3/10” today. We cool down for the next week and look to be dry, but there is plenty of moisture for the time being.

Some 96 day and 98 day corn I pulled yesterday while changing out CRW traps, corn could be pretty good. Pretty decent stands, the drawback will be if the various hail damage from early August backs off the top end.
