GE washer problem

Is it actually spinning? Parents maytag went thru similar, turned out to be a bad shift motor assembly. Had developed to much slop and wasn't shifting right, new part was an updated design. Not sure about GE but some where inside the case should be the real book that will give you trouble shooting parameters. On a maytag/whirlpool type machine its top left inside the case, take top off, pull book, and sped some time with a multi meter.
