This was in olden times when gas was around a Buck, so that was a fair percentage of a difference. It was a very simple old corner station, 4 nozzles and room for some pop and candy bars in the building. Eventually the other stations in town bought the place, removed the tanks, and more or less gave the corner property to the city. It made their businesses more profitable to be rid of the station in town. This was all documented, rather proudly, in the town newspaper back then. I was kinda young, but that newspaper article always stuck with me as a little unsettling, and why others weren’t unsettled by it…. Paul
In the last year or so, Casey's bought out a locally owned station kitty corner across the intersection from the old Casey' store. The station they bought was bigger (bigger store, more pumps and a diesel island) and newer than the old Casey's.
Casey's is now in the store they bought and the old Casey's is sitting there to rot away. It will never be sold with all of the stipulations that are attached to it.
Our town went from being the cheapest gas in the area to being the most expensive gas in the area when this took place. I really wish Kwik Star would build a new store here and give Casey's a little competition.
