southern MN | Decades ago, there was a gas station that was a nickel lower on gas, all the time. This was in olden times when gas was around a Buck, so that was a fair percentage of a difference. It was a very simple old corner station, 4 nozzles and room for some pop and candy bars in the building.
Eventually the other stations in town bought the place, removed the tanks, and more or less gave the corner property to the city. It made their businesses more profitable to be rid of the station in town.
This was all documented, rather proudly, in the town newspaper back then.
I was kinda young, but that newspaper article always stuck with me as a little unsettling, and why others weren’t unsettled by it….
