THE ground is WARMER where the transformer is at. Go stick a thermometer in the ground at seed depth just to compare to farther away. Warmth pushes growth along faster if there is moisture.
I have seen blizzard snowbanks a few feet high and covering a transformer. The transformer is sitting in a hollow spot in the snowbank where it melts the snow from the inside out..
