Subject: RE: Agriculture Extension Agents Worth ?

Southeast WI
First question is what "business model" of extension is YOUR state currently running. You have no location so I have no idea what your question means or what you expect.

From one other response that person expects "weekly reports" - on what (?) is my question. So from that I see that person is stuck 40 plus years ago in extension agent expectations. Here the UW extension specialists in crops provide periodic and timely updates throughout the growing season as an example.

Wisconsin has been reinventing extension over the past decade to meet the needs of the ag community. There have been a lot of growing pains to figure out what's needed and they have been assembling a good team across the state getting the right people in the mix. Some have come from industry bringing plenty of experience, some didnt fit and moved TO industry so it hasn't been a straight line to success. Our specialists are the best and each one has the farmer and production agriculture first and foremost in their research and delivery of products.

I know higher education was my ticket to building a couple businesses over the past 40 years and its important to me to see that this path is available to young people that have dreams and currently no money. We all dont start out with silver spoons in our mouths so education levels the playing field.
