Yes, Buffet has recently sold more stock than purchased - he waits for emergencies and banks cash while waiting.
If farmland [ or any other asset] "cash flowed" then it would pay for itself, and everyone would buy it - so it does not, any more than the purchase of most other non-farm business assets will pay for themselves.
