Wisconsin | Your agronomist was wrong. Pel lime has to dissolve the pellet, and then the powder is still in a small area so useless until it gets spread around. Even the worst lime screenings with gravel so coarse it won't react for fifty years, will have way more powder that's immediately available per dollar than pelleted lime, unless your shipping and application costs are insane.
Lime sold for ag purposes is required to be tested generally. The ENP or NV number is based on the first year, and is typically 80-90% effective in the first year, you won't make up the price of pel lime by gaining 10-20%, and it won't be more quickly available than spread lime either. Only easier to spread if you don't have equipment to spread bulk lime. | |
