So what special stuff can someone do to southern rust proof their corn? Because every single management practice has it, conventional til, no til, no til with cover crops, organic, it is all lit up with it. There’s hybrids that are taking it better but no one has paid attention to southern rust scores and it’s just never an issue here, til now.

We had some fields that were sprayed early about a week before VT on July 13th.! Hadn't seen southern rust yet! It was probably already here and the early fungicide applications have held up. In the same area we found southern rust on July 17th and sprayed fungicide. The 13th spayed fields have not needed additional applications while the later sprayed fields did need another fungicide application. My thought is what if we could find the initial hot spots early and get ahead of the disease.
