We have the Montana 1000E with 2' extension that added a lot of weight to it. It sure helps in hard ground, but we still have to pre-drill in some areas with 5" auger. We needed extension to do 12' posts. Honestly I'm glad we have it, as it can be bolted down your normal height. The added weight sure helps in cutting down number of hits per post. We ran it on Case 95XT and Cat 255 skidsteers. I wouldn't have any less of a machine because of weight of pounder.
