We originally thought the same things, but several years ago we added a liquid system to our planter and started applying 20gpa of an 80/20 UAN/ATS blend and the difference in stalk quality has been night and day different.

On our 14th season in 20” rows and stand ability has been great since adding the liquid at planting.


I'm already doing 5 gpa of each ats and 32%, as well as 10-34-0
I think part of the problem with standability is they think they need to plant 10% more than 30 inch rows, and they'll get the same yield anyway.
The other issue is everybody hates combining them. We have a lot of contours and terraces, stuff like that.
