I've got a second well in the yard that is used for cattle.   That well has a solar pump in it as well as a hand pump.   It's a small bore well so it got kinda tight but it works.   The problem I ran into was the water line going down to the hand pump takes up too much room in the well casing.

Edit it add the solar pump is about two feet lower than the hand pump intake.
