Rows around doesn't really matter. A 16" pizza doesn't weigh any more if it's cut into 18 pieces instead of 14. Wait for black layer, measure diameter about 1" from the butt and measure length of the filled kernels and you can start to get pretty close on yield estimates... until then, it's just a way to waste time.
