Subject: RE: earlage ?

One thing you need to know when feeding a high earlage diet is how potent your earlage is. If you make high quality earlage you could feed possibly up to 60% earlage. If you make earlage that is trashy and the starch content is lower you will have to sub in something with higher starch. High quality earlage starts with seed selection. You want a hybrid that will pick clean and a fuller season if you are relying on a custom harvester. You do not want your earlage ready when they are still chopping sileage, as it goes through the perfect stage very fast. The sample that I am attaching is drier than I would like but was picking clean and was not quite all black layered yet. The ration is always moving but we have to feed so much co products to stretch the earlage. With higher concentrated protiens you could cut back on some of the co-products and go heavier earlage. Here we have to buy something and cheaper co-products fit the bill.
