After my dietary transgressions on the two week Iceland to Barcelona cruise and pretty bad blood glucose excursions from eating too many and too much delicious deserts decided I needed to get back into ketosis and try and repair some of the damage done to my arteries and organs. Gained 5 pounds. Was afraid it would take me three or four days to get back into ketosis.
So on the drive home from the airport talked to wife and decided to try butter fast to see if it would get me back into ketosis more quickly. She can't do it because of lack of gallbladder and that much butter fat for here would guarantee she would be on the pot constantly for duration. She has to be careful how much bacon she has at a sitting. But she found on line another lady that talked about other ways to do a fat fast without using butter. So she is doing a Brie cheese fast while I do the butter fast. So far so good for her as she seems to be doing fine on it.
But back to my butter fast. Was only going to do 24 hours so not much of a fast. Checked my ketones and was 1.2 so definitely in nutritional ketosis. Achieved my goal! Felt great. Little to no hunger and no hunger after eating the butter. Good energy and almost no jet lag after close to 24 hours travel time to get home. Been doing normal chores and lawn mowing with no problems.
Decided to go another day. Not eating huge amounts of butter. Usually a half to 3/4 stick will do me for a meal that gives me satiety. So definitely in a huge calorie or energy deficit. Tastes pretty good. I add a little Redmonds salt to already salted butter. Eat it a couple times a day. Eat to satiety however much I want. Tonight supper half a stick was enough.
Decided to break our fat fast with just some eggs for our first meal. Planned for tomorrow night.
Definitely surprised me how easy it is. My N of 1 experiment. I am not recommending it. Definitely a relatively easy way to get into nutritional ketosis. Obviously not for long term nutrition. A short term metabolic hack.
Edit: Just watching one right now on the subject. Not recommending it. Just a bonus link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FurbXq-myBw&t=1213s #mce_temp_url#
