Iv always thought if i guy drylotted cows and calved em in September out on small grain stubble then ran the pairs on cornstalks up till Christmas and weaned early it might not work too bad. That way pairs are never on muddy or dusty lots. Most years fall weather hearabouts is dry enough that feeding out in the fields wouldnt be a problem.
