Brown county MN
We always limit fed small squares of alfalfa, 1/2-1 lb per head per day, that helped with bicarb consumption and acidosis, but what really helped was starting to raise a few acres of barley, we'd swap barley for a portion of the corn and rebalance the ration. Barley is close to corn in energy, and made a reasonable substitution while slowing down the energy digestion, and adding more fiber and scratch.
