I’ve been told that a RTK receiver is a RTK receiver and that we could hook it up and use it as one.
Well, you got told a story....with some truth. Most any RTK receiver will put out generic NMEA info....however most of the steering systems will be looking for more than NMEA info to function. As a generalization, most of the electric steering wheel systems will work on NMEA, but almost all of the hydraulic steering systems won't. The only commercial hydraulic steering system that I am aware of that will is the Raven product.
That is one of the reasons why there is a market for bridges and other gizmos to jump the gap between brands. People want to run Brand A receiver in Brand B equipment but it won't work on its own. Third party sees a market for an adapter to make it function.
