Subject: Rewrapping baleage.

We made some barley baleage on July 10. I rented a wrapper from a nearby farmer. Normally he’d hire himself out with the wrapper but he was not available.

The wrapper had a steep learning curve. The hydro that runs the plunger also dictates the wrapper speed and at times the thing would walk away from you and wrap at 25% or so. Long story short - it’s wrapped too thin and we are having trouble with some little birds getting into it in the thin spots.

I think we caught it in time and it appears we still have good baleage. We taped up all the little holes pronto but we got a long ways to go to feeding time.

I called the plastic salesman for ideas and he suggested we rewrap the whole thing. I’m definitely not opposed to that if it will keep the baleage in good shape. My question is how much damage will we see by exposing it all to oxygen in the re-wrapping process?
