My bad, some of mine do have a hole and some don't, but I don't think it's your problem. We have 6 troughs with Hudson valves, and they work for us. If there's a leak, and the diaphragm and ring that hold it are intact, cleaning the diaphragm and making sure the small hole through the body is open solves the problem.
