| Now hold on here for a gosh darn minute. COOL might keep our packer "partners" from deceiving consumers and thus hurt their bottom line. Their record profits while the American cowherd shrank to the smallest in memory is merely coincidence. So just keep paying your dollar every time an animal changes hands and shut up about it. Digging your own grave is darn good exercise.
And while we're at it, might as well do away with those pesky cattle auctions like has happened to fat cattle in most of the country. Look at how well that has worked out for the hog industry. Total vertical integration or bust I say. Just think of how much time and less stress (and money) you'll have when the one and only buyer shows up and tells you what they will pay. And by the way here's a list of genetics, vaccinations, etc. they'll have to have next year if you expect us to do the favor of buying your cattle. They'll be someone along to check up on you, check your refrigerator for unapproved drugs, and they better not find a hot shot.
MCOOL is not only honest labeling, it would lessen the strangle hold four packers have on the industry. And that is why they and their flunkies fight it so hard. They don't want or need your farm or ranch as long as they can control cattle slaughter and beef supplies.
Sort of like the story of a salesman seeing a three legged pig in the farmers yard. He asks the farmer why that pig only has three legs. Farmer says that is a very special pig. My daughter was out for a walk and fell down an abandoned well. That pig ran up to the house and carried on until we followed it and found her. Then awhile latter there was a fire started in the barn and that pig came to the door and woke us up. The salesman replied, that certainly is a special pig, but it still doesn't explain why it only has three legs. The farmer looks at him in bewilderment and says. Well you wouldn't eat a pig like that all at once would you?
