I honestly wouldn't know people still used micotil if it wasn't for this forum. Seems like Draxxin and LA are what I see everywhere now.

My lucky micotil story was probably 20 years ago I was helping process 4wt stockers that just came in from Mexico. Was running the headgate on an old powder river and had been given a gun pulling off a big bottle. Wasn't till I switched the bottle that I learned what it was. It had been in an orange dectomax bottle protector so that's what I thought it was. The gun had a slight leak and I just hadn't gotten any on me yet... I was young and in awe of the cowboys I was helping so didn't say anything, just got a lot more careful. Now I know enough id probably drag up leave if someone would hang me out like that

When it comes to losing fingers roping I've been very lucky. When people are learning to rope there is way to little emphasis put on the dally. When I was learning as a kid the neighbor (a prca healer ) nearly lost his thumb and pointer finger. After that he would make my brother and I do dally drills and have competitions at it

I would argue One big flaw that most ranch cowboys have in their dally is to pull it to their hip. That's no big deal when your locked off but When you run a lot rope the coils pull into smaller circle that way. Also if you need to take another wrap it's a lot further to go. I had that problem and was reeducated to keep my palm down and park the side of my hand against the horn. It's made a big difference, really helps keep my thumb in and safe.
