It all sounds good if everyone would (or could afford to)go through the process of changing our operations to make all of these things happen. A few years ago we decided on some full ride third share rent ground that we would just use a cheaper, very sturdy hybrid and cut our expenses way down. We ended up making about the same as we would have when compared to ours right by it that we put everything on but the landlord got way less, we now treat it like everything else and they are way happier. Years ago there was wheat and clover in most every rotation along with alfalfa which adds a lot to the soil structure and really helps on weed pressure, economics have dictated a lot these changes and if these prices continue we may be forced to figure out how to get back to those things. It may not be the sexiest way to farm but most people adapt to what the economics dictate.
