Subject: Thanks Doug,...

Doug, I'm glad you gave your thoughts on this thread. My son got us to switch from 1" to 3/4" finally to using 5/8" stainless needles for our goto needle. We take great strides to try and keep needle guards clean and put them on when branding in traps in the spring when roping and dragging calves to the fire.

When working chute side we set up table to lay them on and also have the cooler with syringe holders in it. I used to just use my vaccine cooler and would set syringes in it, if we stopped working for lunch or something. My son had a two hole cooler he used for work. We bought a neighbor's ranch grazing, she told us we were also buying related cattle supplies. She had a brand new three hole Cross 5 cooler. I traded my son for his old two hole cooler, as he needed the three.

Putting needle guards on, have kept needles sharper, we still change needles when pulling from bottles. Stainless needles are so worth the cost to us.

I agree real easy to get hurt in this industry. After having tore my shoulders up and had neck fused, wore out knees I try and be hard nosed to younger generation to do things smarter not wear themselves out like us older guys did.

I held out using Micotil until Garvo made a post on it. I quit it, I agree great product to save a bad calf. However my thoughts are do a better job at vaccination time, hopefully we reduce drug use. It really has cut our usage.
