It kinda looks like horsenettle to me and it can be toxic to cattle. I am in Iowa and started seeing it in pastures about 5 years ago. I try to spot spray the areas and cattle tend not to eat it by choice. Does it have white flowers and little berries starting? Here is an article about it with pictures:

Thats definitely not horsenettl, at least not how I know it. It should be lower to the ground with smaller leaves, "thorns", and yellow flowers. And it stings like the dickens if you even look at it wrong.

To the op, that looks like cockleburr to me as well.
