Really interesting market dynamics. Low margin for too many years forced many out of the game. That's part of the typical cattle cycle but couple that with inflation pressing margins and extending the pain an extra couple years and it created an explosive situation. Probably similar to orange juice last year (doubled the previous high) but hard to picture feeders going to 500 though. Also, experienced producers who have been around the block aren't going to be too interested in expanding at a potential high and inexperienced producers can't get the money to make much of a difference so where does herd expansion come from? Definitely at a new paradigm I believe but not exactly sure where the range settles out. This fer darn sure is uncharted waters. Making history, and that don’t happen in ag all that often anymore. |
