Subject: Disturbed me this morning,...

To listen to Corbett's report this morning drinking my coffee. A rancher succumbed to a injected antibiotic while doctoring yearlings with his son. Dammit guys smarten up and quit this practice.

It all starts with a good soild vaccination program, it will greatly cut down on pulls. Plus if needed treatment they will respond to treatment. I figure I'm as punchy as they come to handle cattle out on the range. Along with my good neighbors, but I just had this conversation with one of my close friend's yesterday about range doctoring cattle. He's one of the best damn cowboys there is with a horse and rope. I was with him pasture doctoring 600 wts. When he lost his thumb, I hunted for it in the Sagebrush for quite a while. He had on a pair of those leather gloves with the velcro wrist straps. Maybe with regular gloves, hand would have slipped out, don't know.

After that it got him to change his protocol in vaccinations in spring. He will agree it cut down on treats. There's a reason for BQA and other training, but when I see a young person put needle guards in their mouth while filling syringes I chew butt. It all starts with the little things. Cattleman start the younger generation out with safe practices, so they don't get bad habits.

Also I hope we've reached the price point for cattle producers will have a good working relationship with vets and follow soild protocols so a backgrounders and finishers don't question your
integrity of your program.

My condolences to the family that lost their father and husband.
